Ohio In The Civil War Network

Pike County Genealogical & Historical Society
"Civil War Descendant Group "

At the March 2007 meeting of the Pike County Genealogical Society, members voted to add a new honorary organization for its members who qualify. "Civil War Families of Pike County" is the official title of the newly designated group. To qualify as a member a candidate must already belong to the genealogical society and then prove that he or she is the direct descendant or a collateral descendant of a person who served in the American Civil War. A collateral descendant is the direct descendant of the brother or sister of a person who served in the American Civil War. The ancestor must have either served in Pike County, lived in Pike County sometime during his/her life or be buried in Pike County. The person of service may have served either for the Union or the Confederacy. He may have served by being an active member of the armed forces during the war, acted as a spy during the conflict, or fought as part of an unofficial group such as "squirrel hunters" etc.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please write to the Pike County Genealogy & Historical Society, P.O. Box 224, Waverly, Ohio 45690, or attend a meeting of the organization. Meetings are held the third Saturday of each month at 1:00 P.M. in the basement of the Pike County Library in Waverly. The necessary forms and detailed instructions will be mailed to those who request them. The process requires precise and official proof of all service and relationships involved in the descendant records and fees are involved in becoming a member.
Information only about the Civil War Families Group may be obtained by calling 740-289-3570; however forms may only be obtained as stated above.
The 2nd Saturday of November at the Garnet A. Wilson Library at 12:00 p.m. we have a dinner for the First Families of Pike County and this will also include the Civil War Families.
