Pike County relatives of Wiley Dunham, aged 60, one of Pike County's Claims to baseball greatness forty years ago, received word that he had died at the home of a sister, Miss Emma Dunham, of Cleveland, after a four days' illness from pneumonia.

    The deceased was a son of Mal and Eliza Dunham, pioneer resident of Piketon.  He is survived by his wife and a son, William Dunham, of Columbus and four sisters: Emma Dunham, of Cleveland; Mabel and Louise Dunham, of Columbus and Verne Dunham, of Lima.

    He was born and grew to manhood in Piketon, where he first played baseball.  He developed and his fame as a baseball player spread until a scout from the St. Louis baseball club came to Piketon and he was signed as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals.  He made good and remained with that club for several years.  He later pitched  for the Cincinnati Reds, in the National league and Milwaukee and Columbus in the American Association

    Funeral services are being held in the Piketon M. E. Church today at 1:30 o'clock with interment in the Mound Cemetery.

Notes: born 30 Jan 1877, Henry Houston Dunham 6'1" 180 lb, was a relief pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals from 24 May-21 June 1902.  Pitched 7 games for a total of 38 innings, had two wins and 3 loss, 15 strike outs and earned run average of 5.68 to his credits.

There is no marker for Henry in Mound Cemetery.

His last occupation was  a salesman for Sun Life of Canada.
