YMCA 7v7 Ultimate Frisbee League
Registration is open until June 3 for the 2012 Pike County YMCA 7v7 Ultimate Frisbee League. Ultimate Frisbee combines non-stop movement and the athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football. The objective is to score by catching a pass in the end zone. For a complete list of rules, visit www.pikecountyymca.org. Registration fees are $20 for YMCA members, $40 for non-members, or $100 for a team. League play begins on Sunday, June 9, and will run through Sunday, July 14. Teams will play two games every Sunday afternoon/evening at the Pike County YMCA. YMCA Sports Of All Sorts
A 4-week “Sports Of All Sorts” course will be held at the Pike
County YMCA, 400 Pride Drive, Waverly, to introduce boys and girls, ages 8 to
10 and 11 to 13 to a variety of different sports. This course will introduce
participants to soccer, flag football, volleyball and basketball. Registration
is open until June 3. The fee is $20 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members.
Sessions will be divided into two separate age groups and will run from
Tuesday, June 5 through Tuesday, June 26. 8 to 10-year-olds will meet on
Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7 p.m. 11 to 13-year-olds will meet on Tuesday

The public is invited to an open house at Southern Ohio Medical Center's brand-new Waverly Urgent Care and Specialty Center, 835 W. Kickball League at Bristol Park. The league will follow World Adult Kickball
Association rules, which include: 11 field players, 5 innings, no force outs,

run through August 4. Games will take place in Bristol Park on Saturday

of Soil and Water Resources and
the Ohio State University Extension, would like to invite all
those interested in more
information on livestock grazing to attend our upcoming farm tour.
This event will be held on
Wednesday, June 20th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Mike and
David Beekman’s farm on Pearson
Lane in Piketon.
The featured speakers for the
evening will be Bob Hendershot, who is a Grassland
Management Specialist for the
ODNR Division of Soil and Water Resources, and Jeff Fisher,
Extension Educator for the Ohio
State University Extension in Pike County. Both these speakers
are experts in the field of
grazing and livestock management and are sure to bring with them a
wealth of information. Our
primary objectives for the evening are to share with the participants
how to better manage their
pastures for increased grazing opportunities, improving their hay and
forage resources, and
implementing practices on the farm for natural resources conservation and
increased productivity.
Directions to the farm are as
follows: from the intersection of SR 32 and SR 220 (old
Schuster Road), take 220 north
approximately 1.5 miles, turn east (right) onto Millers Lane,
travel east 0.7 miles to Pearson
Lane, turn south (right) and travel 0.3 miles to farm headquarters.

Feast of the Flowering Moon
Chillicothe, Ohio's first capital city, rich in Indian history, hosts the annual Feast of the Flowering Moon Festival. Started in 1984, the festival draws crowds of approximately 85,000. Yoctangee Park, in historic downtown, makes a perfect setting for this family oriented three-day event featuring Native American music, dancing, traders and exhibits, a mountain men encampment rendezvous with working craftsmen and demonstrations, an extensive arts and crafts show with over 80 crafter's and commercial exhibits. Entertainment is continuous on the main stage with good food, fun, games and contests for the whole family to enjoy. This is an educational experience for the entire family. Handicap parking is available at the Feast. The handicap parking will be from the Alley of West Water (by crafts etc & glad tidings) to Walnut St.

Portsmouth River Days is held each year beginning the Thursday before Labor Day. The festival opens on Thursday and runs through Labor Day Monday. River Days is held on the riverfront and in the adjacent historic Boneyfiddle district of Portsmouth, Ohio. There is free nightly entertainment on the riverfront stage, arts and crafts, mid-way rides and more. Late model racing Friday and Saturday nights at Portsmouth Raceway Park. The Grand Parade begins at 11:00a.m. on Saturday morning with the Queens Pageant at the Vern Riffe Center at Shawnee State University at 6:00p.m. Saturday night. The festival ends on Sunday night with our Fireworks Extravaganza at 10:00p.m and the annual Antique and Collector Car Show on Monday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
